Are you getting your Social Security Disability Benefits this Wednesday? Payment schedule for October 2026

The next round of benefits is approaching, while an unusual October calendar change means some SSI recipients will receive two deposits

Americans waiting for their next Social Security Disability payment could see money arrive in their accounts this Wednesday, although the timing depends largely on their date of birth and when they began receiving benefits.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue its next scheduled round of payments on October 21, continuing a staggered distribution system used for retirement, disability and survivor benefits.

Wednesday's deposits are intended for eligible beneficiaries whose birthdays fall between the 11th and 20th of any month.

Others may have already received their October payment or could be waiting until October 28, while recipients covered by special scheduling rules follow a different timetable.

Who will receive Social Security Disability benefits on October 21?

Most people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) who began collecting benefits after April 1997 are paid according to their birthday.

Those born between the 1st and 10th generally receive payments on the second Wednesday, while birthdays between the 11th and 20th correspond to the third Wednesday.

Recipients born between the 21st and 31st usually receive their payments on the fourth Wednesday.

The remaining October 2026 schedule is:

October 21: Birthdays from the 11th through the 20th

October 28: Birthdays from the 21st through the 31st

October 30: Early November SSI payment

Beneficiaries who started receiving Social Security before May 1997, along with certain other recipients, were scheduled to receive their October payments on October 2.

Why some Social Security recipients get two October payments

Another important calendar adjustment affects Americans receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a separate program supporting eligible people with limited income and resources.

SSI is normally distributed on the first day of each month, but payments are moved forward when that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.

Because November 1, 2026, falls on a Sunday, the SSA has scheduled November's SSI payment for Friday, October 30.

That means SSI recipients will receive two deposits during October, following their regular payment on October 1.

However, this doesn't represent an increase in benefits or an additional payment. It is simply November's money arriving early.

What happens if Social Security Disability payment is late?

Beneficiaries expecting payment Wednesday should ordinarily receive their money electronically through direct deposit or a Direct Express debit card.

If the payment doesn't appear, the SSA recommends contacting the bank or financial institution first to determine whether a processing delay has occurred.

Recipients who remain unable to locate their benefits can contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 or visit their local SSA office.

"We will review the case and if the payment is due, we will replace it," the administration explains in its guidance on missing payments.

Beneficiaries can also check their scheduled payment date through their personal my Social Security account.

With October 21 approaching, checking the correct payment category can help recipients determine whether their money is expected Wednesday or later in the month.
