Browns are shockingly committed to Deshaun Watson, but there's some good news for Shedeur Sanders
Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has made his decision at quarterback - at least for now.

No one is expecting much of anything positive from the Cleveland Browns in 2026 . Sporting a mediocre roster with a first-time head coach in Todd Monken , wins will likely be hard to come by for the franchise this season.
That's especially true due to the team's concerning quarterback situation. Deshaun Watson ended up winning the quarterback competition over Shedeur Sanders , despite not playing well during the preseason, and even getting booed by his own home fans. Fans are expecting Sanders to get starts at some point this season, but this will reportedly be a " week-to-week " situation in Cleveland.
Deshaun Watson will be measured on performance on a week-to-week basis
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler gave more information on the Watson-Sanders situation a day before the team's season-opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars . According to Fowler, the Browns are completely behind Watson as their starter for the time being . But depending on his performance, they might not be afraid to make a change .
They're going to base it on performance, like they would any player... They're optimistic [about Watson]. They want this to go well, but it will be performance-based. They're not mapping out how long he's going to play. They're just hoping for the best week-to-week.
Fowler does admit that he expects the Browns to give Watson some grace for two reasons: They have a lot of young starters around Watson and Watson hasn't played competitive football in two years .
In theory, that should give Watson a long leash. But given how demanding, and ravenous, Browns fans can be, a string of poor performances could see him get the hook before the final stretch of the season.
