The star of the Kansas City Chiefs , Patrick Mahomes , understands that the historic connection he has built with Travis Kelce could be entering its final chapters, a possibility the quarterback has acknowledged in recent years.

While there is no certainty that Kelce will retire from the NFL after this season, the reality is that the Kansas City tight end is at a different stage of his career. At 37 years old, newly married, with three Super Bowl titles and several lucrative opportunities waiting for him away from football, the veteran’s future remains uncertain.

But as long as they continue sharing the field, Mahomes and Kelce maintain a connection that few duos in league history have been able to build. After so many years working and winning together, they have developed a sixth sense that allows them to anticipate each other’s moves and see the game from the other’s perspective.

Mahomes discussed that special chemistry during his Wednesday, October 21 press conference.

“It started in training camp that first year I was starting. After every series he would ask me what I was seeing, why I wanted to throw it here,” Mahomes said. “Through those conversations, I started understanding what he was seeing. Now he’s able to do a lot of freelancing in the offense because we are on the same page.”

Travis Kelce remains the Chiefs’ top receiving weapon

Kelce, a 11-time Pro Bowl selection, continues to prove he remains a vital piece of Kansas City’s offense.

The tight end leads the team in receiving yards during the Chiefs’ undefeated start, recording 20 receptions for 299 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Throughout his career, Kelce has totaled 1,100 receptions, 13,301 receiving yards and 84 touchdowns, numbers that have virtually secured his future induction into the Hall of Fame.

However, beyond individual accomplishments, Mahomes and Kelce are focused on making the most of what could be their final opportunity together to chase another championship. And so far, Kansas City looks like a legitimate contender.

One of the team’s biggest offseason moves was the addition of running back Kenneth Walker III . The running back leads the NFL in rushing yards after six weeks with 665 yards, despite playing one fewer game than many of his counterparts.

The Chiefs remain perfect at 5-0 after their Week 5 bye and returned to action with a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium.

Their next challenge will come against the Seattle Seahawks , Walker’s former team, on Sunday, October 25 .
