The Texas Rose Festival, a tradition spanning more than 90 years
The festival began in October 1933 , driven by local growers and gardening clubs seeking to celebrate the importance of floriculture in the region. Since then, it has become one of Tyler’s best-known traditions. The city is widely known as the Rose Capital of America .
The 2026 edition was held under the theme Celebration Through the Seasons, which inspired the floral arrangements and ceremonial outfits. Over four days, residents and visitors took part in activities that combined the beauty of roses with the community’s pride and history.
Claire Ann Malone was crowned Rose Queen
One of the celebration’s main highlights was the coronation of Claire Ann Malone as Rose Queen . A Tyler native, she became the seventh woman in her family to receive the crown, following in the footsteps of her mother, who earned the same honor in 1996.
The program also included the Rose Parade, held on Saturday, October 17, the coronation ceremony at the UT Tyler Cowan Center, and a rose exhibition at the Rose Garden Center. Each event brought a different touch to a tradition that has brought the community together around floriculture and social ceremonies for more than nine decades.
