Travis Kelce disappears from Chiefs locker room and returns in a condition that raises eyebrows after brutal loss
The Kansas City Chiefs have shown major flaws since starting the 2026 season with a 5-0 record.
While two losses shouldn't be considered a catastrophe, it's safe to say that the Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of a slide. After a 5-0 start, everything seemed fine and dandy, but there were real issues festering underneath the undefeated record.
Their first loss to the Seattle Seahawks was concerning, but somewhat expected against the reigning Super Bowl champions on the road. The week after against the Denver Broncos actually featured a Chiefs team playing much better, but poor in-game decisions from Andy Reid and an overall team collapse in the fourth quarter left the team in a sensitive emotional state.
Travis Kelce had to gather himself, emotionally, before addressing media after Broncos loss
Travis Kelce was the picture boy in that regard. Following the game, Kelce spoke with reporters in the Chiefs locker room, but before he did he had to gather himself by " heading around a corner and briefly disappearing " before coming back. Then, when he spoke with the media, his eyes were red and he was visibly emotional .
Kelce really beat himself up for the loss to the Broncos. He believes he let his team down, even though he had a solid performance with five catches for 67 yards .
The reality of things is that we've got to fix a lot. The little things, mistakes. And it starts with the person that you're looking at in the mirror. I'm one of them. I've been frustrated with myself on how long I've been in the league, and the procedural stuff that's happened, for the past three games really... You just can't f***ing do it. I gotta be better for my teammates. And that sets the tone for a lot of people in this room. Everybody's just gotta up the ante from that.
The two losses have clearly affected Kelce from a mental and emotional standpoint. Given that this is likely his final season in the NFL, he wants to go out with a Super Bowl . But in order for that to happen, he and the Chiefs have to be perfect in every facet of play . That simply isn't happening right now.
