Michael Mann health update: Director rushed to hospital after shooting himself in the leg
It was all an accident while trying to draw his weapon at a shooting range
Renowned director Michael Mann , 83, was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a firearm while practicing at a shooting range.
The events occurred this Saturday, November 31, on Halloween night, as reported by the American outlet TMZ. The filmmaker was trying to draw his pistol when it accidentally went off , and he had to receive immediate medical attention, which took place at around 4:00 p.m.
He was taken to the medical center by ambulance, although at first, as the aforementioned outlet explains, he had allegedly refused to go, and was ultimately accompanied by the police.
The accident occurred at The Range LA, an exclusive members-only indoor shooting club in West Los Angeles, where Hollywood’s gun-loving elite often gather. The monthly membership fee to attend the venue would range between $3,000 and $20,000, depending on the plan contracted.
Michael Mann is not retired and is already working on a sequel to ‘Heat’
Despite his age, as is the case with others like Clint Eastwood, he is not retired, as evidenced by his latest and upcoming project. In 2023 he released ‘Ferrari’, starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz , but he is already preparing a sequel to ‘Heat’ , his famous 1995 film that pitted Robert De Niro and Al Pacino against each other.
Last month, Variety reported that Stephen Graham had joined the cast, a star-studded lineup including Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Adam Driver, Jason Clarke, and Odessa Young.
This is the official synopsis of ‘Heat’ (1995) : “Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) is an expert thief. His philosophy is to live without ties or attachments that could become an obstacle if things get complicated. His crew is made up of professional criminals so skilled that they can even impress detective Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), a man so obsessed with his work that he ends up putting his love life at risk. When McCauley’s gang prepares the ultimate heist, and Hanna’s team gets ready to stop it, each of them realizes that they are dealing with the brightest mind they have ever faced in their career”.
