When does Daylight Savings starts in 2027? Date for the next change

The clocks went back on Sunday, November 1 but when will they go forwards again?

The next change to daylight saving time in the United States will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2027, when clocks move forward by one hour as the adjustment marks the beginning of longer evening daylight, although it also means darker mornings for people returning to their usual schedules. Most Americans will need to change their clocks at 2:00am local time, moving them directly to 3:00am. The lost hour means that Sunday will be shorter than usual, but daylight saving time will then remain in effect until the autumn.

The United States follows a nationwide timetable established under federal law, with the annual switch taking place on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. Not every part of the United States observes the clock changes. Hawaii and most of Arizona remain on standard time throughout the year, although the Navajo Nation in Arizona does observe daylight saving time. American Samoa , Guam , the Northern Mariana Islands , Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands also do not participate.

When does daylight saving time end in 2027?

The autumn change is scheduled for Sunday, November 7, 2027. At 2:00am, clocks will move back one hour to 1:00am, returning most of the country to standard time and giving people an additional hour during the night. The 2027 dates differ from those in 2026, when daylight saving time began on March 8 and ended on November 1 as the calendar determines the precise Sundays each year, but the underlying federal schedule remains unchanged. The current system is rooted in the Uniform Time Act of 1966, signed by President Lyndon Johnson . It established consistent rules for states choosing to observe daylight saving time, replacing a confusing arrangement in which cities and states could follow different schedules. The practice itself dates back earlier in American history. The country first introduced daylight saving time in 1918 during World War I , partly as an effort to conserve fuel. It was abolished after the conflict, before returning nationally during World War II under President Franklin Roosevelt 's year-round wartime clock system. Today's March and November schedule was introduced in 2007 following the Energy Policy Act of 2005 , which extended the period of daylight saving time but there have also been renewed efforts to make the arrangement permanent. The Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act in 2022, but it did not become law and whilst a reintroduced version passed the House in 2026, although Senate approval remains outstanding. Until federal legislation changes the system, Americans should expect the clocks to move forward on March 14 and back on November 7 in 2027.
