The Cowboys legend who made Jerry Jones very happy is enjoying another success away from Dallas
Emmitt Smith was inducted to the Florida Gators Hall of Fame on Saturday

Emmitt Smith 's football legacy has earned him a place among the greatest players in NFL history, but another honor has brought his college career back into focus as the former Dallas Cowboys running back was inducted into the Florida Gators Hall of Fame . Smith made an immediate impression after joining Florida in 1987 and as a freshman, he rushed for 1341 yards for the Gators , finishing ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting and establishing himself as one of the country's leading young players before he followed that with 988 yards and nine touchdowns in only nine games during his sophomore season.
His final campaign in 1989 was even more impressive, producing 1599 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, alongside another Top 10 Heisman finish and across three seasons, Smith accumulated 3928 rushing yards and 36 touchdowns, setting 58 school records. He earned three consecutive First-Team All-SEC selections , was named SEC Player of the Year in 1989 and received unanimous All-American recognition as the Dallas Cowboys selected him 17th overall in the 1990 NFL Draft and Smith went on to become the central figure in their championship teams of the early 1990s. Winning three Super Bowls in four seasons between 1992 and 1995, his individual peak came in 1993, when he claimed the NFL MVP award after recording 1486 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. A year later, he was named MVP of Super Bowl XXVIII , rushing for 132 yards and two touchdowns in Dallas ' victory over the Buffalo Bills .
Smith’s daughters celebrate his Gators Hall of Fame glory
Smith 's best statistical season arrived in 1995, when he produced 1773 rushing yards and a league-leading 25 touchdowns before he continued his career with the Arizona Cardinals after leaving Dallas in 2002, eventually retiring from professional football in 2004. His final numbers remain extraordinary: 18,355 rushing yards and 164 rushing touchdowns across 226 appearances whilst he also recorded 515 receptions for 3224 yards, earning eight Pro Bowls and secured four First-Team All-Pro honors and it was his collegiate foundation that paved the pathway for him to become an elite rusher. Smith entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and his latest induction adds another distinction to a career defined by college dominance, three NFL championships and a rushing record that continues to stand. The ceremony, held on October 30 at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame , recognized four former players as Smith represented Florida alongside former offensive lineman Maurkice Pouncey , whilst Georgia 's inductees were Andre Hastings and Brandon Boykin . The occasion also brought a family celebration as Smith 's daughters Rheagan and Skylar shared messages congratulating their father, with Rheagan posting a photograph of him holding his golden bust from the ceremony. “Congrats Padre! Go Gators,” Rheagan wrote on Instagram whilst her sister Skylar also celebrated the achievement, by adding: “Georgia Florida Hall of Fame 2026 inductees, congrats Pops.”
