The Iowa Hawkeyes found a special delivery waiting in their locker room before their 2026–27 opener. Caitlin Clark had sent every player on the roster a custom Nike Caitlin 1, turning her signature sneaker into a tribute to the team where her story took off. Iowa’s post called it “another special delivery from CC” ahead of Game 1.

Clark played for Iowa from 2020 to 2024, scored a Division I record 3,951 points and led the Hawkeyes to consecutive national championship games. The Iowa women’s basketball team opened its regular season with a 73–45 win over Towson on Monday, led by Dani Carnegie’s 21 points. Clark’s gift arrived before tipoff, giving the Hawkeyes’ opener a personal connection to one of the program’s most celebrated players.

The custom edition turns the Caitlin 1’s familiar performance silhouette into an Iowa tribute. A black mesh base is paired with Hawkeye gold, while the Tigerhawk logo sits on the tongue.

The shoe also carries details from Clark’s signature design, including stacked Swooshes and the “C” and “22” motifs.

The Iowa colorway uses the same technology as the Caitlin 1 sold to fans. Nike says its Opticast upper is designed to provide lightweight, locked-in support; a forefoot Air Zoom Turbo unit works with Cushlon foam for responsive cushioning and control through quick movements.

The look is personal to Iowa, while the performance platform reflects the speed and range Nike built the shoe around.

That combination of performance and personal storytelling runs through the broader Caitlin 1 line. The Caitlin Blue and Warning Code launch colorways introduced Clark’s first signature shoe, while later releases such as Midnight Fever and the Halloween-inspired Jinx gave the model new looks and stories.

The Iowa pairs take that idea back to its source: the black-and-gold team that helped make Clark a star.

A new generation of Hawkeyes received Nike Caitlin 1s, a model that connects Clark’s signature line to the place where her college career began and her bond with Iowa took root, years before she became a WNBA star.
